On January 15, 2013, Line of Sight President Jonathan Weinstein delivered the keynote address to the Inaugural Meeting of the US State Department Project and Program Management Community of Practice. More than 271 participants from around the State Department and the world participated. The keynote presentation was broadcast live via video conference to State Department offices in Brussels, Bogota, Montevideo, Beirut, and Kabul. The attendees, including State Department staff and contractors, as well as staff from other from government agencies, heard Jon’s presentation on “Successful Project Management Practices Across the Federal Government.” The presentation is based on the work of Jonathan Weinstein and Tim Jaques in their 2010 book “Achieving Project Management Success in the Federal Government.” The focus of the presentation was on how to leverage these practices and others already at State to improve project success.
Jon’s Presentation was followed by the Patrick Kennedy, Undersecretary of State for Management, who threw his support behind the COP and the efforts of project managers across State. The event also included a panel discussion which included Gary Anderson (Director FSI\SPAS\MTT), J. Kendal Lott (Chief Operating Officer, PMI DC Chapter), Bruce Moler (Acquisition Program Executive FAI) and Mike Taylor (Innovative-E) on project management.
Following the event, Jon and Line of Sight project manager Dana Hardy attended a reception and talked about project management practices with the attendees.
