Award to be Presented at Annual New York Gala May 31

NEW YORK (May 8, 2017) – Jon Weinstein, Chair and 1st District Councilman in Howard County, Maryland, will be presented with the prestigious Alumni Achievement Award by Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) for his continued service and inspiration to our nation’s youth. This honor will be awarded during HOBY’s annual Albert Schweitzer Leadership Awards Gala on May 31 in New York City.

HOBY’s Alumni Achievement Award recognizes outstanding alumni who have distinguished themselves as leaders in professional, social, and philanthropic endeavors, and have exhibited this leadership with dignity and respect. This year Weinstein, who attended the HOBY New York South seminar in 1983, will receive the award along with four other alumni from across the United States. Recipients of this prestigious award are nominated from among the nearly 500,000 people who have been selected to participate in the HOBY program since its inception in 1958.

“My experiences with HOBY for over 30 years, as an Ambassador and volunteer, are not only key milestones in my life, but serve as important guideposts. I can trace a direct line from my achievements to my first amazing HOBY experience that amazing weekend in June 1983 when I began my HOBY journey,” said Weinstein. “I am honored and humbled to be one of the pebbles that Hugh cast into the middle of the water to create the ripple effect that has helped me be of service to others. I had the great opportunity to work directly with Hugh one summer and was inspired to carry on his legacy”

Jon has served in leadership positions for local and statewide Maryland community organizations, including HOBY. He is the co-founder of Line of Sight, a consulting firm focused on improving organizations’ performance. Additionally, Jon has authored two books and several articles, and has traveled the world as a leadership speaker and expert. In 2014, Jon brought his commitment to service to a new level when he was elected to represent Howard County, Maryland’s 1st District on the County Council. He was selected by his colleagues in December 2016 to serve as Chair.

“We are proud to call Jon one of our very own,” said HOBY President and CEO Javier LaFinaza. “His leadership and commitment to service embodies the very principles that make up HOBY.”
